Indianapolis, IN– Martin University, in collaboration with The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis, AmeriCorps/Serve Indiana, Keeping Indianapolis Beautiful, and Nature's Choice Landscape & Garden Center, is proud to have hosted the AmeriCorps Day of Service & Remembrance Program on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. This initiative, dedicated to honoring the lives lost on 9/11, will bring together volunteers for a day of community service focused on beautifying the Martin University campus.
Volunteers from across the state will work alongside AmeriCorps members to assist in various campus beautification efforts, including landscaping, cleaning, and the construction of benches donated by the sponsoring organizations. These benches will provide a lasting tribute to the spirit of service that underscores this annual event, offering a comfortable and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
As a culmination of the event, a special commemoration ceremony will be held to honor the Veteran students of Martin University for their continued excellence in higher education. A commemorative plaque will be presented, recognizing their dedication to both their academic pursuits and their service to the nation.
“We are proud to be part of this Day of Service, which not only commemorates the tragic events of 9/11 but also highlights the enduring importance of community and civic responsibility,” said Dr. Sean Huddleston, President and CEO of Martin University. “The service and dedication of our Veteran students inspire us all, and we are honored to recognize their contributions with this plaque.
