So You Graduated, Now What?

Becoming a first year teacher has been one of the most beautiful and transformative moments in my life. Just weeks after graduating, I had the opportunity to travel to Portland, Oregon, for a nationwide educators’ conference held by ISTA. This experience completely reignited my passion for teaching and gave me a deeper sense of purpose. Surrounded by educators from across the country, I left that conference feeling empowered, inspired, and ready to step into my calling, teacher.

Shortly after, I participated in a phonics training led by UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute). That training gave me practical tools, fresh perspectives, and a strong foundation to support my young readers in and out of the classroom. It reminded me that literacy is more than just letters and sounds—it’s the key to unlocking confidence, curiosity, and lifelong learning in my students.

While attending the UFLI training, I also had the opportunity to participate in a professional development session focused on math instruction. This course gave me valuable insight into using intentional math language, building essential skills, and, most importantly, finding creative ways to get students engaged in learning math.
Collaborating with other educators to explore different strategies helped me see math instruction through a new lens—one where every child feels included, confident, and capable.
As I prepare for this upcoming school year, I want to capture every part of the journey: the growth, the challenges, the lessons, and the magic. This journal will be my space to reflect, celebrate, and stay grounded in my “why.” Teaching is more than a job—it’s my purpose, and this is just the beginning.
