Martin University Recognizes Black History Maker, Alumnus DuJuan McCoy

Throughout the month of February, distinguished Martin University Alums will be spotlighted providing us with an opportunity to honor these great individuals by learning more about their lives and their contributions to black history.


DuJuan McCoy is a native of Indianapolis, Indiana. He continued his studies in the city, graduating from Butler University in 1989 with a B.S in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and Sales. He began his television career soon thereafter as an Account Executive for WTTV in Indianapolis. Over the past 30+ years, he has amassed a great career growing small, medium, and large market television stations into revenue winners while significantly improving the companies’ profitability and community engagement.


In December 2007, while still a participant in the NAB Broadcast Leadership Training Program, Mr. McCoy founded and became the Owner, President, and CEO of Bayou City Broadcasting, LLC. In January 2008, his company agreed to purchase seven TV stations from Sage Broadcasting Corp (KXVA-Fox Abilene, KIDY-Fox San Angelo, KIDZ-MyNet Abilene, and 4 Class A Stations in Abilene.) With this purchase, Mr. McCoy and Bayou City Broadcasting earned the distinction of being the only African American company to own and or operate a Fox affiliate in the United States, and purportedly the first African American to own and operate a major affiliate in the state of Texas.


SINCE HIS FIRST ACQUISITION IN 2008:

  • December 2012: Bayou City Broadcasting divested San Angelo and Abilene stations to London Broadcasting.

  • January 2015: Bayou City Broadcasting purchased WEVV-CBS and WEEV-LD Fox in Evansville, Indiana. Mr. McCoy became the only African American to own a CBS affiliate in the nation.

  • January 2017: Bayou City Broadcasting purchased KADN-FOX and KLAF-NBC and MyNet in Lafayette, Louisiana.

  • July 2019: After Bayou City Broadcasting’s divestiture to Allen Media Group, Mr. McCoy founded Circle City Broadcasting to continue to purchase and operate broadcast TV stations in America.

  • September 2019: Circle City Broadcasting purchased WISH-CW and WNDY-MyNet in his hometown of Indianapolis from NEXSTAR Broadcasting, Inc.

  • January 2020: Circulus Digital Media launched

  • June 2020: All Indiana Podcast Network is launched

  • November 2020: McCoy announced a partnership with Cox Media Group to launch a

  • National News Network - Multicultural News Network (MNN) live from Indianapolis, IN.

  • July 2021: Emedia Augmentation Company launched

McCoy received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Martin in 2021.
