Located in Indianapolis, Indiana, Martin University was founded in 1977 as a small liberal arts institution designed to serve as a “healing place and second chance school” for nontraditional students, particularly African American students. Today, it continues its mission of intense support for student success with a broader population and programs at the baccalaureate and master’s levels.  Martin’s unique approach builds on students’ past experiences, cultivates individual talents, and works with life challenges of students to cultivate achievement. Martin University seeks a dynamic leader who will build on the institution’s existing strengths and develop important new initiatives for future growth.

Reporting directly to the Board of Trustees, the president is the chief executive officer of the University, responsible for visionary and strategic leadership. As the only educational institution that primarily serves the underrepresented urban population of central Indiana, the University seeks a President with a caring attitude and servant’s heart who can articulate the unique mission of Martin University and inspire the University faculty, staff, and students.

We seek a President with a record of success in higher education leadership, particularly in the areas of:

•             strategic planning and program implementation

•             fiscal affairs and fundraising

•             responsiveness to the needs of a diverse, commuter student body

•             human relations management and team building

•             community service

•             partnerships with business and industry

The President must have outstanding interpersonal skills, a service-orientation, and be a person of integrity, genuinely committed to students. Familiarity with central Indiana is an asset.

Applications and nominations will be accepted until a president is selected, but candidates are urged to submit their credentials by November 9, 2018 to assure optimal consideration. Application materials should include a letter of interest, names of three references, and a current resumé/CV.
