Sign up now for the 2008 study abroad trip to Belize!
Martin University's Global Exchange Program will again provide graduate and undergraduate students the opportunity to study abroad in Belize, Central America during the 2008 Winter Trimester. The group will begin their trip on Saturday, March 8, 2008, and return Sunday, March 16, 2008.
The Global Exchange Program is the study of cultures, ecology, geography, and history which are the foundation of all
human sciences. Belize is a virtual outdoor and cultural classroom.
Its jungles contain wildlife, rivers, caves and mountains; and a coast line with the second largest barrier reef in the world. Belize is also noted for its ancient Maya ruins. Belizean people represent ethnic groups that include Mayan Indians, Spanish, Creole, Mennonites, and Garifunians who are a direct descendant of African slaves that escaped ship-wrecked Spanish slave ships near the Caribbean island of St. Vincent in 1635. This educational exchange, in collaboration with the University of Belize, has and will provide Martin students an enriched educational experience.
In the 2007 Winter Trimester, seventeen Martin University students spent nine days in Belize. They climbed 2,000 year old Mayan temples, and swam and fished in the Caribbean Sea. Students interacted with numerous peoples representing a variety of ethnic backgrounds and cultures. They too received an educational experience of a life time.
Students interested in participating in the Global Exchange Program opportunity to Belize MUST contact Harry Murphy, Chair of the Social Sciences Division, at (317) 917-3305 immediately.
Traveling abroad requires acquiring a passport, completing an individual travel manifest, etc. All of which take planning ahead.
In addition to the course tuition cost, there is an additional fee [$2,000 for the trip in 2007 - but likely more in 2008] that covers air travel, transportation, lodging, tour & instructional costs, most meals, etc. Waiting until Winter Trimester enrollment to sign up for the Global Exchange Program simply means these students will be too late to meet the mandatory passport for international travel among other requirements!
