Martin University Partners with the Alzheimer's Association

Indianapolis -The Alzheimer's Association of Greater Indiana, Martin University, and CICOA Aging and In-Home Services are pleased to present an educational program titled "Alzheimer's Disease: Beginning to Cope" on Tuesday, March 6, 2007. This program is designed for anyone who provides care for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease and offers a comprehensive overview of the disease and its progression, utilization of community resources, and legal and financial considerations. Dr. Dan Rexroth will present a medical overview of Alzheimer's and Tamatha Stevens, an elder law attorney, will present legal and financial information. The program will run from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Martin University Globe, 2171 Avondale Place, Indianapolis. Martin University is located one block west of North Sherman Drive and just south of East 22nd Street. A light meal will be provided.

Martin University and the Alzheimer's Association are planning future related programs to help Alzheimer's caregivers better understand and prepare for this caregiving role. Two additional programs have been scheduled: "Partnering with Your Doctor" on June 5, and "Caring for the Caregiver" on November 1. Watch for more details on these and other programs.

Within just a decade, Medicare spending on people with Alzheimer's disease will increase by almost 55 percent to $50 billion annually. Medicaid expenditures will rise by almost 80 percent to $33 billion annually.
