HEALING Village/Health Services
Martin University’s Healing Village provides a link between students and health through individual health counseling, health education and referral, and provision of programs and services which are based upon identified needs. Evidence-based, holistic, ecologic perspectives, consistent with the mission of the university, have driven the development of services, which are ever evolving as we respond to the needs of our students. Health needs of students mirror health needs of the larger community, in which there is profound disparity in health care access, quality of services, and health related quality of life.
Many needs include individual, family and community concerns, not the least of which is the need for informed leadership from within the community to promote health and well being for all. One essential goal of Healing Village Programs is service to the community through empowerment of our students as leaders and advocates for health. Our non-traditional adult learning environment offers a unique opportunity for the potential of transformational health education, within a framework of primary prevention through health promotion in higher learning.
