Spanish

The study of foreign languages provides an opportunity to read, write, and speak a language other than English. In today’s multicultural world, knowledge of one or more foreign languages is a valuable skill in a variety of professions, including business, health and social services.

The objective of the Spanish major is to develop competency in Spanish. Oral proficiency in the majority of its courses is emphasized. The department strives to introduce its students to the peoples, cultures, literature, and artistry of Spanish-speaking countries.

Students entering Martin University with previous Spanish instruction may be able to waive one, two, three or four semesters of Spanish. However, no credit will be given for testing out of Spanish. Students able to waive Spanish must take 12 credit hours of liberal arts electives to satisfy total credit requirements for graduation.

Spanish majors take 12 hours of Spanish as part of the general studies core as well as the following:
