Music

A major in music, consisting of 36 credit hours, is open to interested students with the agreement of their mentors and is subject to approval of the Language and Fine Arts Division.

The visual and performing fine arts offer opportunities for students to enjoy artistic and cultural expressions from professionals, as well as participate in courses that provide cultural experiences to students. The fine arts are emphasized at Martin University and are required of all students as an integral part of the avenues of expression of self-realization and human interaction.

The University engages professional performers, musical groups and symphonies, exhibitions, dance troupes, and various artists for the cultural enrichment of students, faculty, staff, their families, and the general community. Students, faculty and staff also engage in artistic performances, theatre, music, chorales, and community festivals, all of which lead to personal fulfillment and to an appreciation of the fine arts.

Ordinarily, the major in music is available only to amateurs or professionals who can exhibit their skills in an audition and receive appropriate credit through the Prior Learning Assessment (PLA). If persons desire to be assessed in any of the fine arts, they should first seek the advice of the Liberal Arts faculty to be assured that the PLA experience will be of benefit. If a student meets the proper criteria by passing a vocal or instrumental audition, he/she may be admitted as a music major.
