Biology
The field of Biological Sciences includes the study of plant and animal life, basic principles of chemistry, cell structure, functions and reproduction, and principles of heredity and development. Major emphasis is placed on understanding the basic processes of living organisms. Biology prepares students for careers in life science, medical and research laboratories, and teaching. The concentration in Organismal Biology prepares students for careers in life science and the allied health professions and nursing. The concentration in Environmental Science provides students with an understanding of the global effect that human activities have on the individual as well as the whole web of life. This is useful in the business world as well as in the geopolitical and legal arenas.
The major in biology requires a minimum of 42 credit hours.
