Early Childhood Education Division

The Early Childhood Education program at Martin University offers curricula leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education. The curriculum follows the standards of the National Association for the Education of Young Children for teaching children 0-8 years of age. Students study the educational theories and techniques designed to promote children’s social, emotional, cognitive, physical and developmental learning. Students gain valuable practical experience in teaching children throughout the curriculum, which requires students to integrate and apply the knowledge gained in the major. The course work is appropriate for candidates seeking the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.

Through varied learning and practicum experiences, the teacher candidate will develop:

  1. Professional knowledge and standards for teaching young children.
  2. The ability to make unbiased judgments and decisions as theoretical information is translated into practical application.
  3. An understanding of the social and human aspect of learning and teaching.
  4. A perceptive awareness of the community in which service takes place.
  5. A forward thinking attitude while discerning trends and factors affecting future curricula and program development.
