Department of Business

The Business Department’s course of study leads to a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration or Accounting. Successful completion of the curriculum prepares the student to perform a wide range of tasks, demonstration of leadership abilities, technological awareness, and intellectual capacity. The business department further encourages the building of a sense of purpose and an attitude of service in a leadership capacity. Learning Outcomes

The Business Department degree programs provide students with an extensive business background, a focus on technology, and the principles and techniques of effective administration and management. In addition to the majors the program offers, it also offers minors for all students. Each student studying for a degree from the Business Department must complete courses in his or her major as well as the courses in the General Education Core Curriculum.

Business Department courses focus on basic, intermediate, and advanced business and accounting concepts as well as provide practice in interpersonal communication, business communication, supervision, computer application, and customer service.

Students in Business Administration or Accounting will be able to:

  • Creatively integrate their business education and leadership skills into effective domestic and global service.
  • Be broadly educated citizens and capable, ethical, and competent business leaders with the demonstrated ability to meet organizational and societal needs.
  • Be well grounded in the free enterprise economic system and be able and motivated to participate in the domestic and global economy as effective and influential contributors.
  • Possess the requisite knowledge of leadership and management philosophy and practicum to make positive contributions in their professional careers.
  • Demonstrate acquired technical, social interaction, and communication necessary to perform as effective supervisors, leaders and managers.
  • Be appropriately prepared for their professional lives or graduate studies.

Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) is an international organization dedicated to the mission of bringing together the top leaders of today and tomorrow, to create a better and more sustainable world through the positive power of business. This service-learning opportunity prepares students to become active members of the organization, be charged to develop leadership skills, plan and deliver educational outreach programs, receive exposure to career opportunities, and have the opportunity to participate in team competitions to develop skills for their professional lives.
