Undergraduate Admissions
Martin University offers a liberal admissions policy to accommodate applicants with a wide range of abilities. Applicants who possess a high school diploma or GED and meet one or more of the following criteria are exempt from placement testing. These students will automatically be placed in entry-level college courses (or above if they have completed entry-level college course work at another post-secondary institution) if they:
- Possess a “CORE 40” or similar “College Preparatory” high school diploma earned within the last 10 years.
- Possess an earned associates degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
- Have at least 30 credit hours of prior college coursework not ending in an earned degree that meets the required academic standards and prerequisites for the selected degree programs (coursework must be no more than 10 years old).
- Have a SAT score of 460 or higher in each area to be waived from testing (scores must be no more than five years old).
- Have and ACT English score of 17, Reading score of 18, and Math score of 18 or higher in each area to be waived from testing (scores must be not more than five years old).
- Have a PSAT score of 46 or higher in each area to be waived from testing (scores must be no more than five years old).
- Have a GED score with a combined average of 450 or higher on the five subject areas of the test (with a total score of at least 2250 and minimum of 410 on each individual test).
All other applicants are required to take the COMPASS placement test. This computer-based academic skills test assesses the writing, spelling, reading and mathematic skills of each applicant. The COMPASS scores are used to place admitted students in a unique combination of courses which will provide them with the appropriate level of coursework for each subject. Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements of the COMPASS test may be admitted under the Conditional Acceptance Policy.
Conditional Acceptance Policy
Martin University welcomes students with the academic preparation and motivation to successfully complete a college degree program. Upon recommendation of the Director of Admissions and the Admission Review Committee, students who have a high school diploma or GED whom do not fully meet admissions requirements but show potential for success at the university may be offered conditional acceptance. These students may be required to register for specific courses and/or successfully complete course work during the summer prior to enrollment at Martin University. Failure to follow the course recommendations proposed by the committee or to maintain a cumulative average of 2.0 as a minimum after two semesters may result in the student being withdrawn. Students maintaining a 2.0 after two semesters will be granted general admittance to the university and can enroll in regular program related classes. Martin University reserves the right to deny admissions or continuing enrollment to persons who cannot benefit from the educational services available.
